I’m Emma Amuti. Proud mother of two, grandmother of three, retired fundraising research director, widow, gardener, passionate lover and collector of beautiful textiles and now founder and CEO of Sew-Source, an apparel and sewing resource directory.

When I think about my journey establishing this directory, I feel as if I must begin with my passion for everything to do with textiles. My first memory of textiles was as a child in the late 1950s when my mother, a professional seamstress, allowed me into her workroom. As a special treat, I would receive leftover fabric scraps to design and sew doll clothes. My interest and skill grew throughout my high school years. By the time I entered college, I was proficient enough to sew my own clothing and operate an alteration business to supplement my tuition.

My journey to developing this directory began in the early 1990s as I began collecting fabric shops and URLs. I fantasized about visiting fabric shops in those days because I lived in a state that had few fabric shops and the Internet was the only way I could indulge my fabric passion. It is incredible to think that in those days the Internet was such a novelty! Few fabric shops websites and even fewer had shopping carts. Yet in course of 30 years, we have experienced the growth of the Internet and the proliferation of online fabric shops such that what began for me as a few 3 x 5 index cards has grown to list of more than 200(and counting!!!) online fabric shop websites.

I want you to think of this list as a handy search aid that will allow you to do less Google searching and more fabric shopping. Please be aware that the list is not meant to be comprehensive as I have included only shops with online shopping carts. Yes, I know that there are a ton of on- line fabric shops, however without the presence of an active shopping cart, I have excluded them from this listing. To keep the directory current, I will be adding new websites from time to time as I uncover them.
